Gratkowski, born in Hamburg in 1963, studied at the Musikhochschule Köln with Charlie Mariano, Sal Nistico and Steve Lacy. He lives in Berlin.
Gratkowski is considered one of the most experimental interpreters and composers of improvised and new music as well as jazz. Extensive collaboration with renowned composer-performers, countless festival participations in Europe and worldwide.
